AI traffic detection

Track how AI assistants are sending visitors to your site.

Why this matters

Generic analytics tools lump traffic from ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity into "Direct" or "Referral." Glyphex breaks them out so you can see how AI assistants surface and route users to your content: a channel that did not exist three years ago and now rivals social for some sites.

Tools detected

Glyphex identifies AI traffic by referrer hostname and UTM source. Currently detected:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude
  • Perplexity
  • Gemini
  • Microsoft Copilot
  • Mistral
  • Meta AI
  • You.com
  • Phind
  • Poe
  • DeepSeek

Coverage updates as new assistants ship or change their referrer behavior. If you see traffic that should be classified as AI but is not, message us via with the referrer URL.

Where to find it

  • The AI tab in the Sources card on your site dashboard.
  • The AI traffic sub-page (/ai-traffic) for trends, tool breakdown, and top landing pages from each tool.
  • As a row in the Channels list: "AI" is one of the seven channel categories.

AI assistants vs AI crawlers

These are different things and Glyphex treats them separately:

  • AI assistants (this page): humans using ChatGPT or Claude who click a citation link. Counted as regular visitors, attributed to the AI channel.
  • AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, ByteSpider): automated bots scraping content for training. Filtered out entirely so they do not pollute your stats.

Both are visible separately if you want to inspect them: the AI traffic view for assistants, and the bot traffic page for crawlers.

Optimizing for AI referrals

Use the top landing pages report under the AI tab to see which of your pages assistants are citing. Pages that already attract AI traffic are good candidates to deepen: clear answers, good structure, and authoritative content tend to reinforce existing citations.

Pair AI traffic with UTM parameters on links you publish, so you can see exactly which content drove each AI-routed visit.
